Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed annually in the United States. One of the biggest decisions that a patient has to make when having a breast augmentation is what size of implant to use. That is always the hardest decision. Now, the way we do that is, first off, I have the patient tell me what their goal is, what size they want to be. Candidates for breast augmentation are really anyone who has smaller breasts or is just unhappy with their breast size, can be a good candidate for a breast augmentation. But the biggest determining factor is the skin quality. You have to have good elasticity and a breast that is not droopy, to begin with, to be a good candidate. A breast augmentation only takes about one hour in the operating room. We roll you in, you undergo general anesthesia, the surgery is done, and we roll you out and recover you, and that all takes about one hour. So it's a quicker procedure than most people realize. Everybody wants to know how long is it going to take for me to recover after my breast augmentation. First off, I do what's called a 24-hour breast augmentation or the smart recovery breast augmentation. And those are things that I do intraoperatively to help cut down on tissue trauma and speed your recovery. Then I have you within the first 24 hours, start arm exercises to help loosen up the muscle as well. So really within 24 hours, you're back to your normal daily activity. Doesn't mean you're not going to have any pain at all, but it means that you can be back doing your normal routine.
