Your Consultation
During your consultation, Dr. Smart will discuss your aesthetic goals, and help determine whether a mini facelift can best deliver the results you desire. If you are also concerned with the brow area, for example, he may recommend that you consider a brow lift, or a full facelift instead. Unlike a traditional facelift, which addresses the entire face, a mini facelift targets only the lower portion of the face and neck.
The Procedure
Since this surgery is less invasive than a traditional facelift, Dr. Smart is able to use smaller incisions. These incisions are made near the ears and are easily concealed in your hairline, minimizing the chance of any visible scarring.
Through these incisions, Dr. Smart will access sagging tissue and gently pull it into a more youthful position. He will remove any excess tissue, and also tighten and reposition the skin for greater definition along the lower cheeks, jaw, chin, and upper portion of the neck. This tissue will be sutured into its new position and the incisions will be closed.
Determining Your Candidacy
Candidates for mini facelift need to have sufficient elasticity in their facial skin to allow for the most natural-looking results. Due to the natural aging process, patients may have lax skin throughout the lower portion of the face, folds around the nose, minor jowls along the jawline, and a neck that is beginning to droop. Because this treatment is designed for patients with initial and limited signs of aging, candidates are typically in their 30s and 40s.
