Target Signs of Aging with a Lower Facelift
A lower facelift tightens and lifts the lower part of the face, most often the quickest to show signs of aging. As you age, skin elasticity weakens and collagen production slows down, causing the tissue to sag. Other factors, such as stress, sun exposure, and smoking can also contribute. This facial cosmetic surgery procedure reverses the effects of time to create a more youthful appearance. Dr. Ken Smart at Frisco Plastic Surgery and MedSpa in Frisco, TX, can perform this procedure in our comfortable and private surgery center. As a board-certified surgeon with extensive experience, he is known for delivering completely natural-looking results for our patients.
Lower Facelift vs. Traditional Facelift
A traditional facelift focuses on lifting and tightening the entire face by combining a full facelift, mid facelift, and often, a brow lift all into one procedure. A lower facelift only addresses problem areas on the lower third of the face, such as deep wrinkles, saggy jowls, and excess skin along the chin and neck to achieve a beautifully contoured jawline. It can also be combined with non-surgical treatments such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers to completely transform your appearance.
Are You a Candidate?
You may be an excellent candidate for this procedure if you are in good overall health, but struggling with cosmetic issues on the lower half of your face and neck, such as:
- Excess fat and skin around the neck and jawline
- Appearance of a double chin
- Saggy jowls
- Deep wrinkles
- Fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin around the mouth
The Lower Facelift Procedure
During your initial consultation, Dr. Smart will perform a detailed physical examination, reviewing your medical history and cosmetic goals in order to determine your candidacy and create a personalized treatment plan. He will take the time to visit with you about any concerns you may have to help set your mind at ease before undergoing the procedure.
This type of facelift addresses deep wrinkles, saggy jowls, and excess skin along the chin.
After arriving at the surgery center, you will be taken to a private room where Dr. Smart will administer anesthesia so you can remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Discreet incisions will be made in front of and behind the ears so Dr. Smart can access the underlying tissues. He will gently remove excess fat and lift and tighten the facial muscles to a more youthful position. Once he is happy with the results, he will smooth and remove excess skin to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. To complete the procedure, he will close the incisions with sutures and apply compression garments and bandages.
Recovery and Results
Once the procedure is complete, you will be moved to a recovery room where our staff will monitor you. In most cases, this procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure and you can return home the same day. We recommend that you have someone available to drive you home and stay with you the first 48 hours.
The following day after surgery, Dr. Smart will remove your bandages, clean the area, apply fresh dressings, and go over postsurgical instructions with you. As with any surgery, there is some risk for complications and infection developing, but by following your at-home care instructions carefully, you should experience a smooth recovery and satisfying results.
It is not uncommon to experience some swelling, soreness, and bruising for the first few weeks. Each patient responds to surgery differently, but most patients can expect to return to work about two weeks after surgery. Over the course of the next six months to a year, you will continue to see improvement. Choosing to have your procedure performed by a board-certified surgeon with the expertise and experience of Dr. Smart provides you with a much safer option and desirable outcome than a plastic surgeon new in the cosmetic surgery field.
