Turn Back the Clock
At Frisco Plastic Surgery, P.A., Dr. Ken Smart frequently performs brow lift surgery at our office located in Frisco near Plano, Texas, where we have a fully accredited outpatient surgery center. A brow lift enhances the appearance of the face by elevating the eyebrows to a more aesthetically pleasing location and smoothing wrinkles in the forehead. During the aging process, the level of the eyebrow descends resulting in a false appearance of tiredness or anger. Through one of several advanced techniques, the eyebrows are elevated and the deep furrows of the forehead are reduced resulting in a more refreshed, rejuvenated appearance and eliminating the angry look. In addition, the eyes look more rejuvenated because the elevation of the brow eliminates some upper eyelid excess skin. Dr. Smart is experienced in all brow lift techniques and carefully analyzes your entire face to customize a brow lift that will enhance your features. Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Candidates for brow lift surgery are in overall good health and are usually between 40 and 60 years old. Their eyebrows have begun to droop secondary to the affects of aging. Usually there are deep lines in the forehead from lifting the eyebrows and frowning. A brow lift will improve the height of the eyebrows, and smooth the forehead.
What Are the Different Types of Brow Lifts?
There are several different types of brow lifts that can improve the appearance of the forehead and elevate the eyebrows. Some of the techniques that we use at Frisco Plastic Surgery include:
The Traditional Brow Lift
The traditional, or open, brow lift involves an incision behind the hairline that goes from the temple on one side, across the top of the scalp, to the temple on the other side. The eyebrows are elevated by removing extra skin and the resultant scar is behind the hairline. In addition, the muscles that cause wrinkling of the forehead are weakened, which results in less wrinkles.
The Endoscopic Brow Lift
An endoscopic brow lift eliminates the need for a long scar across the top of the scalp. Three to four small incisions are made in the scalp and with the aid of a camera and special long instruments, the brow is elevated, and the muscles weakened, which smoothes the forehead. This procedure is a good option for younger patients who want to look rejuvenated but don’t want a long scar
Other Brow Lift Procedures
There are several other newer, even less invasive brow lift techniques we use at our office serving the Frisco and Plano areas. The first involves placing a small absorbable screw-like device through an incision in the upper eyelid that grasps the tissue behind the eyebrow and holds it in an elevated position. This is performed in conjunction with an upper eyelid lift. Another technique uses threads placed through small incisions high in the scalp. These threads have special barbs on them that grasp the tissue and allow elevation of the eyebrow. During your brow lift consultation at Frisco Plastic Surgery, P.A., we will discuss these different methods and Dr. Smart will choose the procedure that is best for your individual needs.
Are Men Candidates For Brow Lift Procedures?
Brow lifts are commonly performed on men. If there is a receding hairline, Dr. Smart alters the location of the incision to make it more inconspicuous. Some special techniques are used in male brow lift patients to ensure that their results are more masculine.
Can a Brow Lift Be Performed with Other Plastic Surgery Procedures?
It is very common to perform brow lifts with other surgeries, including facelift, upper or lower eyelid surgery, and lip or chin augmentation.
What Type of Anesthesia is Required for a Brow Lift Procedure?
General anesthesia or deep IV sedation are most commonly used for open or endoscopic brow lifts. The less invasive techniques can be performed under light sedation or sometimes just local anesthesia.
What Is Recovery like After a Brow Lift?
Recovery from an open brow lift is slightly longer than the endoscopic technique. Pain from the surgery is controlled with oral pain medication. The dressing is removed after one to two days and the head is kept elevated for three to five days to help with swelling. It is also common to have bruising and some swelling around the eyes and into the cheeks. This usually resolves after seven to 10 days. All of the sutures and clips are removed after two weeks. With the open brow lift technique, there is numbness around the incision that can last for up to six months. Pain, swelling, and bruising typically resolve quicker with an endoscopic brow lift and the numbness caused by the incisions is not as much of an issue.
How Much Will a Brow Lift Cost?
At the end of your brow lift consultation at our office, Dr. Smart's patient coordinator will go over your personalized quote with you. That quote includes the surgeon's fee, the anesthesiologist’s fee, and a separate facility fee.
